About
Hi! My name is Kaarin.
Those are my legs up there.
My website is called True to Style instead of "Kaarin Vembar" because my name is hard to pronounce and even harder to spell.
I have a background in journalism (UNC-Chapel Hill, home of the Tar Heels). I've had an amazing, exciting, and very weird career.
Highlights: interning for an Oscar-winning documentarian; production work at a NBC news-station; education and external affairs work at a museum where I learned about branding, marketing, and surveying; starting a business and working as a stylist in the D.C. area for 8 years; writing about local retail for Washington City Paper; LOTS of hustling / side-communication jobs for nonprofits and arts organizations.
My jam: Taking large retail stories and telling them in a way that pushes narrative so people realize, "This is important."
What I'm working on now: A year-long investigative report about disappearing independent retail in Washington, D.C.
What I'm most proud of: co-hosting and producing Pop Fashion - a weekly fashion podcast.
Its big secret: It's not about fashion, it's about business (but, dressed up in a sparkle-pony of an outfit that looks like fashion).
